“Winter wonderland”… What comes up to your mind?
We are not winter lovers and we don’t even like being cold, so we can think of a beach in the middle of nowhere, the heat, the cuddles of the waves of the sea and maybe too many drinks to go.
27th of December 2018 – Ready to go! Bags are ready and swimming-suits in the hand bags… direction.. Indian Ocean! Yes! Right there, Maldives!
We chose a Resort in the Male Atoll, which is (taking a boat) just 20 minutes from the International Airport: Anantara Veli Resort and Spa.
It is built on 4 islands which form a big crystalline lagoon and it is home of turquoise. You move from one island to another with a shuttle, swimming or by feet on low tides – you never get bored!
The bungalows and water-villas are on the biggest islands: Dhigu and Veli. The other two islands are dedicated to snorkeling and total relaxation.
We spent 5 nights in this paradise including New Year’s Eve! It was just amazing and fun!!
During our stay we dedicated ourselves to eat (there are 7 restaurants offering different culinary experiences according to the taste), sunbath, soak in the sea all day while watching and looking for the sea habitants … but is not just this! We decided to have a different excursion from the normal ones so.. we met the nurse sharks!!
The excursion lasted more or less 3 hours. the go/back boat trip and the experience with the nurse sharks. These sharks are harmless if not disturbed and can reach a length of 4 meters. The peculiarity of this magnificent shark is that they literally “suck” their preys – and doing so they can swallow the prey even swimming at high speeds.
Unfortunately, 5 nights passed too fast and the day to wear back the shoes – by now forgotten – came … but it is not finished yet … Abu Dhabi we are coming!
We arrived at the Dubai airport moving to Abu Dhabi by car with a trip of 1 hour.
We stayed at one of the Emir of Dubai beautiful Jumeirah Hotels: The Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort!
The Hotel is located on one of many islands on which Abu Dhabi is built, this is the only one with a magnificent beach and a transparent sea.
The Hotel, recently built, has eco-friendly solutions such as providing a water bottle to each guest and it can be filled any time with still o sparkling water to one of the numerous fountains scattered on the beach and at the pool side.
Arrived in the evening, we had dinner at “Tean“, the Arabic restaurant of the Hotel where we tasted the local flavors… what goodness!!!
In the morning, after breakfast, we dedicated it to maintain the tan, while in the afternoon we went to the famous Etihad Towers, where we went on top of one to enjoy the 360 degree view of the city… it’s unbelievable on how many islands the city is built!
A little walk after the thousands of photos and here we go… hello Louvre! It presents itself as an ultra-modern structure made of steel, built on Emir of Abu Dhabi’s will in collaboration with the famous Louvre in Paris. It houses 620 works, and many of which have been lent by the Parisian Museum. Do you wanna know which is the only thing that left us disappointed? We were so excited in being able to see the “Salvator Mundi” by Leonardo… we found out that it was not on display… though luck!
It’s time for dinner… hurray!!!! Guess where did we go? Well.. we just say that in town there is one of our favorite restaurant… yes yes it’s that one… Zuma!
The following morning we kept the “tanning maintenance mood” and then… straight to the Ferrari World! The construction is representing the shape of a Ferrari GT, and inside there are all the attractions! Two things that we like the most? well.. for sure the professional simulator (obviously tried by Mr Pochette)… Mrs Pochette jumped in the most promising rollercoaster instead.. “Formula Rossa” .. from 0 to 240 in 4 seconds!! Bang!
The afternoon ended with a visit at the Great Mosque built by Sheikh Zayed; also called the “White Mosque” for the major use of white marble, it is a fascinating building in typical Arab style that, seen before and after sunset, shows off a unique light’s game. Precious details are not just in white marble! Also gold, precious stones… think that there are also Italian mosaics and the biggest carpet in the world!
Yey! It’s that time of the day.. the blowout time!! Obviously at the Etihad Tower! Welcome to Ray’s Grill!
The sadness of the last day arrived but the flight is at late night.. actually.. at 3 am so we opted for a relaxing day!
Beach and then… let’s go! It’s souvenirs time! We visited a modern Souk where we managed to find some spices, tea, and other interesting stuff! Continuing the tour we also went to the Marina Mall… Not recommended at all!!!
Before leaving for Dubai Airport we decided to have the last dinner at “Tean” restaurant.
